2009 Etoile Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay, Burgundy
France

2009 Etoile Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay, Burgundy

The addition of Declassified Meursault Limozin makes this a serious Bourgogne Blanc. We gave it the distinction of ‘Etoile’. It possesses a complex flavor profile, deep intensity and superior length. It is a special blend for ELV Cote d'Or with a rich mid-palate and long nutty finish found in benchmark Meursault village wines, coupled with the vibrancy of St. Romaine for more freshness in the final blend.

2009 Etoile Bourgogne Rouge Pinot Noir, Burgundy

Coming from just south of Nuit St. Georges, the vineyards of Comblanchien and Corgoloin produce wines with dark fruits and firm texture. This serious village wine from immaculately raised old vines expresses itself with plum and blackberry notes with a big palate impression from the inclusion of stems. These two villages that form the core of the southern Côte de Nuits Villages AOC are known for their limestone quarries and produce mineral-driven wines.

Clear ruby red in color with a brilliant edge, the nose is open and broad with pure aromas of fresh red cherries, some raspberries, a hint of Asian allspice, anise seed and earthy tones to complete. 2009 Vosne Romanée Pinot Noir, Burgundy

This massive wine from Vosne Romanée needs patience. It can age for years with its solid, tannic structure and intense black fruit flavors that reveal themselves on the palate as the wine opens up. Dark fruit, Asian spices, and fine tannins characteristic of Vosne Romanée make this a muscular wine. It has hints of black cherries and black currants and an elusive aroma that suggests violets.

2009 Beaune Bressandes Premier Cru Pinot Noir, Burgundy

The red wines of Beaune are famous for their silky texture and ethereal weight. This wine is representative of one of the best sites in Beaune, with red raspberry, cinnamon, red cherry flavors and aromas that linger on the palate until they gently fade. Beaune-Bressandes sits in the middle of the Beaune AOC with red soils and is located on the middle slope for perfect drainage and sun exposure. The 2009 Doc’s Ranch Pinot Noir is from a small 1.5 acre vineyard on the Sonoma Coast, tucked in-between a forest of giant California Redwoods. This cuvee always produces our most Burgundy style Pinot Noir with aromas of forest floor, fresh wild mushrooms and bright red currants. The texture and flavor is textbook Sonoma Coast – supple and warm, with fruit compote notes and delicate spice nuances. Aged in 50% new French oak for 15 months.

Clear ruby red in color, this elegance of the nose dances between red and black fruit aromas of wild berries with many layers of complexity that take a few moments in the glass to show their colors. A few savory notes, hints of tobacco and aromas of rose petals. The palate showcases some very fine and elegant tannins that perfectly persists, a mineral core so typical of Seven Springs and a long finish that lingers and returns to those wonderful berry aromas. 2009 Tempest Vineyard Pinot Noir, Santa Rita Hills

93+ pts. Wine Advocate

The Tempest Vineyard was planted in 2007 on the western edge of California’s Sta. Rita Hills. Open to the Pacific and planted with 4000 vines per acre the wines from the Tempest Vineyard present a deep purple color and an explosive nose which contrasts with the bright light griottine cherry flavors in the mouth and a long and persistent finish. The wines from the Tempest are indeed a study in opposites and the rare harmony that can be achieved when opposites exist to balance one another.

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate on the Tempest 2009:
‘The 2009 Pinot Noir Tempest is simply dazzling for its aromatic complexity and textural richness. Intricately woven layers of dark fruit emerge from this classy, elegant wine. Everything is about effortless grace in this exquisite, beautifully balanced Pinot.’

Darker ruby red in color, the nose shows aromas that dance between rose petals and lavender, with some exotic notes of cardamom and tamarind that encompass the heart of red cherry. The palate is very silky in texture, with a tight minerality and more powerful tannins for longevity. The finish is precise, pure and persistent. A wine with good energy, it will continue to bloom as it ages.

2009 Occidental Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast

94 pts. Wine Advocate

The 2009 Pinot Noir Occidental is gorgeous. Sweet, silky tannins frame an expressive core of fruit in this refined, subtle wine. The finish is refined and haunting. Shatter was a big issue here in 2009 and lowered yields significantly, but the positive side of that is that the wine has more than enough stuffing to handle its 100% new French oak with grace. This is a striking wine from Evening Land. 94 pts. -- Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate #196 August 2011

Pale straw in color with silvery tones, the aroma leaps out and competes for attention with notes of white peaches, herbal hints of fennel and lemon balm with an impressive crushed stone character. The attack on the palate is bright and light, yet coating with a creamy core that keeps on tightening. The finish is unusually long with lemon and citrus balancing and supporting the frame to the stony character. This is a wine of great texture that will blossom with age and that will continue to make your mouth water.
